Scott Lawrence Pond Memorial Scholarship Established October 14, 2000 By Lawrence and Gloria Pond (Parents) An enthusiastic high school science teacher, Scott Lawrence Pond shared his curiosity and spirit of adventure with students, friends and family. Graduating high school with academic honors and a state wrestling title, he became an Astronomy teaching assistant at Williams College, majored in Geology, and during a Junior Year semester at the University of Lund in Sweden, helped research geothermal heating for the city. In high school, he captained wrestling and sailing and he pursued these sports in college. He was Waterfront Coach at Camp Treetops, Lake Placid, and he taught at North Country School, then Proctor Academy, where he also coached wrestling. After summers
climbing in Peru, Bolivia and the western United
States, he started graduate study at Dartmouth
College. He married Patricia Ann Coombs, a Mathematics
instructor in 1989, and became the proud father of
Caroline Moriah Pond in 1991. A licensed pilot,
paraglide and experienced skydiver, Scott died in a
