The Tracy Blair Sadik Memorial Scholarship

Established November 2001

By James and Flora S. Sadik (Parents)

It is with a feeling of great sadness, yet deep appreciation that the Woodbury Scholarship Fund announces the establishment of a memorial scholarship fund by James and Flora S. Sadik of Woodbury in memory of their daughter, Tracey. Their daughter succumbed in July 2000 to cancer, at the height of her career at age thirty-eight.

Tracey attended Watertown High School, and then went on to Wheaton for her B.A., and an M.B.A. at Boston College. Next came the American Institute of Banking at Williams College, followed by three more years of study to attain a C.F.A – Certified Financial Analyst. She rose quickly to become Vice President and Portfolio Manager of private assets at the Mellon Bank in Boston.

Her interests were as numerous as her degrees. From her earliest days she was an avid reader, even before kindergarten. Later she became a Girl Scout. At Watertown High School she was on the tennis team and in student government. In college, she played squash and was head of her dormitory; but on the side, she acquired a stock broker’s license. One of her greatest loves was “Outward Bound” on Hurricane Island. Later, she devoted much time and effort to this challenging program of survival and “of knowing thyself”. She returned each year to help with its maintenance. It became her number one charity, possibly because of the spirit of adventure nurtured in “Outward Bound”; she explored on foot the outback of central Australia. With the onset of cancer, she became a major supporter of the famous “Jimmy Fund”. In Boston, she joined the Board of Directors of a special education school for fellow sufferers of other diseases.

From a fully endowed scholarship, awards will be made to Woodbury residents graduating from high school and attending a four-year college and who personify the high motivation, the concern for others and the potential scholastic attainment of Tracey Blair Sadik.
